I’ve been an user of Technorati sense about ’07, and today something just struck me as bad design. I’m not talking about the horrible ads on the side of the page but the fact that the links are horriblely illegable due to color
The a:link is set to #0095A1 (light teal) sitting on a very light gray, while the main site background is set to ##EAF2F5, a slightly lighter teal than the link. I didn’t notice till I felt myself glaring and a glace of the page delivered up no information. This jarred me because I was thinking, “what to click next?” I scanned, and the question “what did I just read?” popped into my headed, repeated that for each page, in a list of paginated links.
It was very frustrating.
Also the main body typography is very poor. Notice that searched terms are both bold and italics, not nesseary, bold works perfect for scanning. To make matters worst the font is set to 12 pixels, the visible meta data 10 pixels, and the overall line height is only 2 pixels more than the give font size, not an additional 50%.
This as a whole makes everything tiny, squished together, and faint. I find it apalling that the navigation and ads are fine, but the actual content is illegible, on a screen at that!
